Better for Consumers

Since oilseed rape oil is an important frying oil, VISTIVE oilseed rape was developed to meet the needs of consumers and food producers searching for a healthier alternative.

VISTIVE oilseed rape oil has been specifically bred to contain low levels of saturated fat, replacing the less healthy saturated fats with the more heart-healthy monounsaturated fat Oleic Acid, as we find in Olive oil.

Foods fried in lower saturated fat oils contain lower levels of saturated fat than those fried in high saturated fat palm oil or the traditional beef dripping of some fast food outlets.

VISTIVE not only differs from conventional oilseed rape in the increased levels of Oleic Acid. Along with the increase in Oleic Acid, the level of Linolenic Acid - an unstable polyunsaturated - has been dramatically reduced. The result is a highly stable and healthy frying oil.

The low linolenic acid level means that VISTIVE oil is stable when it's heated for frying and deep frying and can be used to make chips, crisps and doughnuts in food company production, without needing to be processed and altered by hydrogenation, so avoiding the introduction of trans fat into the food.

Trans fat, which doesn't normally exist in vegetable oils, is formed during the process of hydrogenation, and used to increase shelf life and flavour stability in fried foods, baked goods, snack products and other processed foods. Trans fat is linked to heart disease, because it lowers HDL (good) cholesterol while raising LDL (bad) cholesterol.
